From History:
From 1896 to 1911 a daily events and job record of the Birch Run & R.D. Pike “Hatching House” were penned in a yearly diary. The history of early days were penned by Mrs. Robert Sykes in “Jottings of Early Hatchery History." The journals describe:
Sunday, June 25, 1905:
Bernard & Frank on duty today.
John Walters cleaning screens at night.
Had very heavy rain last night and the forenoon. Heaviest flood we ever had here.
Fast Forward: June 18, 2024:
History has a way of repeating itself. On the night of June 18th, 2024, we experienced another flooding event at the Les Voight Hatchery. Our newly planted flowers were tested and some held strong, while others will sadly be replaced.
Some images from the flood are shown below. Our intrepid volunteers are ready to start again! Click the images to view full-screen.
