The Friends of the R.D. Pike Building, Inc. would like to thank everyone who attended our friends inaugural kickoff event on July 20th and were a vital part of such a momentous day!
During the festivities, which included wonderful music and great food, the Friends laid out a vision for the large crowd at the Les Voigt Fish Hatchery in Bayfield, Wisconsin. That vision includes making the R.D. Pike Building a “must see” on people’s itineraries as they visit our beautiful area.

The day was filled with speeches, a program outlining the plans for renovation and restoration, with historical artifacts, new signage, and an unveiling of the commemorative plaque to the building’s namesake, Mr. Robinson Derling Pike.
The unveiling was carried out by Mr. Pike's great-great grandson, Mr. Drake Pike, who offered his hearty endorsement of the effort in his fun remarks to the crowd. We are so grateful that he and his wife Sally took time from their busy schedules to join us all the way from Northern California!

Attendees also heard from members of the Friends board and from staff at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on the specific goals, strategic plans and costs associated with this project. The intentions and mission statement of the Friends group were laid out to show the surrounding communities and attendees that this is a vital project in protecting the glory of the past and educating for the future!
We envision visitors from far and wide coming to experience the building and the gardens when the work is completed. We hope all of you visit periodically to see the progress. We have additional events in the works and will certainly keep you all informed.
The work that went into planning this event was more than repaid by the kind, considerate, and thoughtful comments that were prevalent from so many who attended. We are humbled, honored and want all of you to know that you have energized us!
As the work continues, we will post more updates here. Check in from time to time!
